• Speaker Bio: Greg Hoffman is currently a LAM Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. John Blenis in the Department of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School. His current research is focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying regulation of the mTORC1 signaling network by nutrients and growth factors and how disregulation of these events contributes to human diseases. An important aspect of this research is the application of high throughput cell-based siRNA screens to uncover novel components of the mTORC1 regulatory machinery that may serve as targets for therapeutic intervention. In addition to his screening work, Greg is performing biochemical studies on the Rheb GTPase, a critical upstream regulator of mTORC1. Greg received his Ph.D. in Biophysics from Cornell University, working with Dr. Rick Cerione in the Department of Molecular Medicine, where he used a combination X-ray crystallography and biochemistry to study the regulation of the Cdc42 GTPase.
  Description: Dr. Greg Hoffman, in the laboratory of Dr. John Blenis at Harvard Medical School, has developed an In-Cell Western (ICW) assay that uses the LI-COR Aerius® Imager to quantitatively measure phosphorylation of the ribosomal protein S6 (rpS6) as a measure of mTORC1 signaling. This webinar will discuss development of the assay and its application to small molecule and siRNA screening. Topics will include:
