Environmental Controls

In addition to speed, animal stress is minimized by several important design elements of the Pearl Impulse.

  • All imaging beds for the Pearl Impulse are detachable, providing a convenient carrier to transport animals from an induction chamber.
  • All imaging beds have a temperature-controlled surface to maintain the body temperature of the animal. Anesthesia gas can be delivered via a nose cone on the bed.
  • When the handle of an imaging bed is rotated down to locked the imaging bed into the imaging drawer of the Pearl Impulse Imager, connections to temperature controller and anesthesia ports are made automatically.

  • In addition to the standard imaging bed (Figure 1), the Pearl Clean Box (Figure 2) allows immunocompromised mice to be transported from the docking station clean area to the Pearl Impulse Imager in a HEPA-Filtered, closed system in order to avoid exposure to outside elements.
  • A stand-alone Pearl Docking Station (Figure 3) provides temperature and anesthesia gas control to any Pearl imaging bed at a secondary location. The compact design allows the Docking Station to be used in traditional laminar flow hoods.
  • An anesthesia system (Figure 4), fully compatible with the Pearl Impulse, is available as an option. Simple operation minimizes animal loss, even with newly trained technicians.
