FV2000 Windows® Software

FV2000, a Windows-compatible software program for downloading, viewing, and manipulating data files from the LAI-2000 Plant Canopy Analyzer is now available.  FV2000 is included with the LAI-2000; current LAI-2000 users can download the program here.  FV2000 emulates and extends the data processing capabilities of the LAI-2070 Control Unit, including the ability to design isolated canopy models for determining path lengths, as well as general data analysis and graphing functions.

File Operations

FV2000 provides general purpose communication functions for transferring files from the LAI-2000 to a computer, or for reading files from a disk.  Once files have been downloaded or read, a tabbed window displays the source of the file; multiple files are displayed on additional tabbed pages.  LAI files can be cut or copied and pasted from one tabbed page to another.

Files can be easily sorted by clicking on the appropriate column header.  The variables (columns) to be displayed for each file can also be chosen and arranged in any order.  Simply double-click on any file in the main window to view the file details.

The Header includes the file number (assigned by the system) and a time stamp indicating when the file was created.  The user is prompted for two remarks when a file is created.  Both the prompts and remarks are defined by the user.  The remaining part of the header contains results of the LAI calculations: Leaf Area Index (LAI), standard error of the LAI determinations (SEL), fraction of the sky visible beneath the canopy (DIFN), Mean Tip Angle (MTA), standard error of the MTA (SEM), and the number of pairs of above and below observations used to calculate these results (SMP).

The Statistics group contains 5 rows of 5 numbers: ANGLES are the mid-angles of each of the five rings’ field of view.  CNTCT# are the mean contact frequencies (the log of the transmittance divided by the path length) of all the computed transmittances, STDDEV are the standard errors of the contact frequencies, DIST are the path lengths, and GAPS are the fraction of the sky visible for each detector ring.  For full cover canopies, the DIST values are simply 1/cos(angle).  These values can be adjusted for isolated canopies (foliage density).

The Observations each have a label (A or B), a sequential number, a time stamp, and 5 values.  The five values are the signals from the five rings of the detector, and the A or B indicates above or below the canopy.

Graphics and Charting

Single or multiple charts can be added to the main view.  In the example below, raw above and below readings are plotted for the 5 rings; the 6th chart shows the relationship between LAI and DIFN for the files.

Other Features

FV2000 provides a variety of methods for recomputing LAI files.  These LAI-2000 computation parameters can be easily changed: 1) how transmittance is computed, 2) the canopy shape, and 3) which rings are used.

Alternate Inversion Methods

FV2000 duplicates the LAI computation performed in the LAI-2000 console, and also provides 3 alternative methods:
1) Lang Method, 2) Ellipsoidal Method, and 3) Constrained Least Squares Method.

Current LAI-2000 users may download the FV2000 Software by clicking here.
