Eddy Covariance Presentation

The Eddy Covariance Method guidelines were prepared by LI-COR Senior Applications Scientist George Burba with assistance from Application Scientist and Technical Support Group Leader Dan Anderson.

Dr. Burba has been an integral member of the Science and Technology group responsible for research and development of fast-response gas analyzers. He authored and co-authored over 50 journal and conference papers and book chapters relevant to Eddy Covariance techniques, and has been an invited speaker at international conferences on flux measurements.

Dan Anderson has extensive experience with LI-COR's instruments for Eddy Covariance measurements in various data acquisitions systems and has supported scientists on the topics of environmental instrumentation for over 17 years, including LI-COR support provided for the Ameriflux, CarboEurope, Fluxnet-Canada, and Fluxnet networks.

The Eddy Covariance Method

The following multimedia presentation on the Eddy Covariance Method is presented as a service to the scientific community. The content was developed as an introductory course for researchers who wish to know more about Eddy Covariance and how to properly make these measurements. The presentation emphasizes the general principles, requirements, applications, and processing steps from deploying the equipment through processing the data. Additional information is provided on frequently overlooked details and on basic concepts of eddy covariance measurements. This presentation draws together information from numerous academic sources to provide an easy to understand, objective overview of Eddy Covariance measurements.

The presentation is a 1.5-hour PowerPoint slideshow with detailed narration. The lecture text can be seen by clicking the red checkmark titled "Notes" at the bottom of the screen. This section contains text and informal notes along with additional details. Most slides contain references to other Web and literature references, additional explanations, and/or examples. Slide "forward" and "backward" buttons are also at the bottom of the screen.
