Working with Data

The LI-8100 System begins following configured measurement protocols and logging data when the “Start Measurement” button is clicked in the software. When the measurement begins in a single chamber system, the survey or longterm chamber automatically closes and data logging starts. In a multiplexed system, the first chamber identified in the port sequence closes to begin the measurement, followed by the other chambers in the pre-defined order.

LI-COR provides a Data Analysis (FV8100) software application on the system CD packaged with the LI-8100. The FV8100 application offers a convenient way to view selected summaries of data files and observations logged by the LI-8100. Users can quickly plot meaningful analyses to evaluate and manage measurements. Editing and recomputations are readily done as well.

For example, if data were collected using an incorrect soil area or soil collar height, the data set can be recomputed by simply entering the correct value(s). The software also provides views of flux measurements calculated with a variety of regression fits to optimize data analysis. A variety of post-processing capabilities and data display options are available:

  • Regression analysis of individual observations (right)
  • Graphing of measured and calculated variables (below)
  • List of all observations (below)
  • Export files into text format (below)
  • Change the deadband and observation length (below)
  • Recompute specific observations and variables (below)

Graphing of Measured and Calculated Variables

The software can be used to compare all of the listed measured and calculated variables. Allowing the user the ability to make some quick graphs may help him/her determine the most important part of the data for further analysis.

List of All Observations

When opened an FV8100 data file immediately displays a list of all observations associated with that particular file. Individual observations can be selected and opened from this screen.

Export Files into Text Format

Observations can be exported to text format either by selecting observations (below) or by selecting all observations in the data set.

Change the Deadband and Observation Length Variables

By moving the red and green lines in the file viewer software, the user can adjust the deadband and observation time according to what best fits his/her data. The flux record is then automatically updated.

Recompute Specific Observations and Variables

The user can go to this screen to select a few or all observations to recompute. A list of variables to be recomputed is located on the screen.
