The LI-200 Pyranometer Calibration schedule will be reaching its annual suspension on October 1st, 2014 and continuing through until February 28th, 2015.
LI-COR encourages our customers to return their LI-200 Pyranometer Sensors for recalibration (suggested every 2 years after field deployment) between the months of March and September. Why? Because pyranometer sensors need to be calibrated outdoors in natural sunlight in order to construct an accurate relationship between the output of each sensor and incoming solar radiation. During LI-COR’s 40 years of manufacturing and calibrating pyranometers, we have found that best results are obtained during the summer months when sensors can be exposed to a full range of sun light intensities, over a broad range of sun angles. Sun angles in Lincoln, NE USA are lower than optimum for calibration purposes during late-fall and the winter months and frequent storms and overcast conditions often limit the number of days with full-sun, high-intensity daylight that are required for good calibrations. LI-COR is better able to achieve high quality calibration standards and shorter-turn around times by limiting pyranometer recalibrations to the months of March through September.
