Setting the Proper Height of the 6400-04 Thermocouple

Setting the Proper Height of the 6400-04 Thermocouple

The 6400-04 thermocouple position generally needs to be high enough to touch the leaf with the fine-wire thermocouple, as seen in the figure below.

6400_thermocouple

If the thermocouple is not positioned high enough, the thermocouple will measure air temperature in the chamber rather than leaf temperature. If the thermocouple is too high, the leaf can put pressure on the flexible supporting hoop.  This pressure may tear or puncture delicate leaves or…

LI-6800 Leaf Temperature Thermocouple Height

LI-6800 Leaf Temperature Thermocouple Height

Leaf temperature is an important input to many parameters calculated on the LI-6800, including stomatal conductance (gsw) and leaf intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci). The LI-6800 leaf temperature probe is a Type E thermocouple mounted on flexible material (Figure 1). The thermocouple junction is a ~0.008” diameter bead. The bead is too small to be seen without magnification (Figure 2).

Accurate measurement of leaf temperature requires that the thermocouple bead be high enough to ensure it is making contact with the…

Updating Positional Tags for Biomet Data

Updating Positional Tags for Biomet Data

Version 8.0.0 of the LI-7500RS/LI-7500A/LI-7200RS/LI-7200 gas analyzer embedded software implemented a new identifier for Biomet data.  The identifier is a set of three digits that indicates the horizontal position (h), vertical position (v), and replicate number (r) at that position.  This naming protocol is based on the protocol for the AmeriFlux and ICOS networks (http://ameriflux.lbl.gov/data/aboutdata/data-variables/).  This information is stored by the LI-7550 in the biomet.metadata file for use with EddyPro® Software.  In the Sutron datalogger, there is a communications tag…

Battery Tabs on the LI-250A Light Meter

Battery Tabs on the LI-250A Light Meter

Occasionally the LI-250A Battery tabs can become depressed against the sides of the battery compartment.  When this occurs, the battery may make intermittent contact with the tab, especially if it experiences a fall or hard landing.   The temporary loss of power due to intermittent contact with the battery tabs may then cause the processor to lock up and the instrument will cease working altogether.

To resolve battery tab problems, gently bend the battery tabs (below) until the nine-volt battery fits…
