Glycoprotein Analysis in the Near-Infrared Offers Flexibility and Multiplexing Capabilities

May 22, 2009, Lincoln, NE: Glycoprotein analysis is a growing area of research that requires sensitive and quantitative applications. LI-COR Biosciences has adapted several one-color, visible glycoprotein applications to near-infrared applications that are detected at 700 nm and 800 nm. Detecting at near-infrared wavelengths provides low background from biological materials, buffer components, and standard membranes used in Western and lectin blotting applications. LI-COR offers a near-infrared system optimized for two-color analysis, which reduces the workload for profiling and characterizing glycoprotein structure.

Several applications for glycoprotein analysis are possible such as glycoprotein gel staining, O-GlcNAc specific antibody detection, glycoprotein labeling, and lectin arrays. The Odyssey® Infrared Imaging System and IRDye® labeled conjugates provide a single optimized solution for detecting a variety of glycoprotein interactions.
