LI-COR 4300 DNA Analysis System being used in the classroom at Tiger Woods Learning Center
Tiger Woods Learning Center (TWLC) is using LI-COR's Model 4300 DNA Analysis System as a primary teaching tool in its biotechnology elective course for young people, grades 6-12, who have been accepted to the technology-focused learning center.
With locations in Orange County, California and Washington, D.C., TWLC offers after-school and summer programs that show students how the relationship between their personal interests and what they learn in school can develop into an exciting, meaningful career. These courses revolve around careers in math, science, technology and language arts. All learning is done on a completely wireless campus using the latest technology.
"The importance of the partnership between LI-COR and TWLC is to create the hands-on, authentic, real experience for young people who are interested in careers in the fields of biology, medicine or medical research," says Dr. Katherine Bihr, TWLC vice president and executive director. "The participants in our program have the opportunity to use LI-COR's DNA sequencer to see what it would be like to be a research biologist"
The Model 4300 DNA Analysis System is based on LI-COR's proven, highly sensitive infrared fluorescence technology. The 4300 System is rugged and reliable, making it ideal for classroom use. Solid-state technology allows for continuous or intermittent use without the need for routine maintenance.
"The relationship with TWLC is a perfect example of how the 4300 System is best used - in the classroom," says Doc Chaves, LI-COR director of marketing communications. "Along with the Genomic Education Matching Funds Program, this teaching tool can be accessible to almost any classroom."
The Genomics Education Matching Funds (GEMF) Program is designed for faculty researchers and their students to gain access to cutting-edge technology and incorporate it into the classroom. LI-COR GEMF grants are a 60% match from LI-COR with the institution providing 40%. Click here to apply.
