LI-COR Inc., a leader in environmental measurement technology, has opened an office in Beijing, China. Beijing LI-COR Bioscience LTD will provide direct sales, service, and support to its customers, offering instrument installation, maintenance, parts replacement, calibration, and training.
With a presence in China, LI-COR can develop direct relationships with customers, invest in better support and service to help customers be more productive, and further its growth in the region.
“Our customers in China conduct research similar to that of their counterparts around the world,” says Conrad Fernandes, LI-COR Vice President and General Manager, Asia-Pacific. “Climate and carbon cycle research, food security, and water management are important topics as they are elsewhere.”
“But Chinese researchers work to manage a huge ecosystem with unique challenges, and a better understanding of those challenges will lead to improved products and solutions that will benefit LI-COR customers around the world,” he adds.
Beijing LI-COR will acquire firsthand knowledge of market needs and trends in China and develop the ability to respond and contribute to their customers’ success. Key scientists in China and their LI-COR counterparts will develop relationships for mutual learning.
The office currently has 28 employees, and service personnel have travelled to the United States for onboarding. “The majority of our employees in China have substantial scientific knowledge and market experience, enabling us to be fully operational from the start,” said Fernandes.
LI-COR China opened September 4, began taking orders October 1, and launched the website October 25 at licor.cn. LI-COR China expects to be at 100% direct sales by January 2024. Manufacturing will continue in the United States.
