Instructions using the RS-232 cable to configure a sonic anemometer.

LI-COR currently offers Gill WindMaster or WindMaster Pro Sonic Anemometers (Gill Instruments Ltd., Lymington, Hampshire, England) for use with LI-COR gas analyzers, including the LI-7200 Enclosed CO2/H2O Analyzer, LI-7500A Open Path CO2/H2O Analyzer, and LI-7700 Open Path CH4 Analyzer. When purchased from LI-COR, the sonic anemometer is configured at the factory to contain a default set of values suitable for use with any of the above mentioned analyzers. If, however, the user wants to view these values, to verify and/or modify, LI-COR provides the 9975-038 RS-232 Cable. The cable connects the sonic anemometer to a power supply (e.g. a battery) and an RS-232 port on a computer. Please note that the use of this cable is generally not required, except to modify the outputs, if desired (e.g. changing the output rate, or output variables).

The 9975-038 RS-232 Cable has a connector for the Gill WindMaster or WindMaster Pro sonic anemometer on one end, and a DB-9 RS-232 connector and power supply leads on the other end. Connect the DB-9 connector to a 9-pin RS-232 connector on the computer. Connect the red lead to the positive terminal on the power supply, and the black lead to the negative terminal on the power supply, as shown below. Run the Gill Wind Software (gill.co.uk) to configure the anemometer; you will be prompted for the serial port to which the RS-232 cable is connected.
