Inside the Deep Soil Ecotron: New Opportunities for Deep Soil Research

NOVEMBER 11, 2026

Discover the research possibilities available at the Deep Soil Ecotron, an NSF-funded facility designed to advance research into deep soil processes.

In this webinar, Dr. Zachary Kayler will introduce the Deep Soil Ecotron, including its intact deep soil cores, environmental controls, and suite of LI-COR and complementary instrumentation. He will also highlight an ongoing ecosystem respiration experiment to illustrate how LI-COR trace gas analyzers, the LI-6800 Portable Photosynthesis System, soil measurements, and other facility capabilities can be integrated to study whole-ecosystem processes.

The webinar is intended for researchers interested in deep soils, ecosystem respiration, soil-plant-atmosphere interactions, and new approaches for studying belowground processes. Attendees will gain an understanding of the Deep Soil Ecotron, the types of experiments that can be conducted there, and how its measurement infrastructure is being applied in current research.
