LI-COR® Introduces SmartFlux® Core to Bring LI-COR Cloud® to All Eddy Covariance Systems

LINCOLN, Neb. - LI-COR, backed by global investment firm Battery Ventures, today announced the release of the SmartFlux Core upgrade, representing the latest innovation for traditional eddy covariance systems. SmartFlux Core connects traditional systems to LI-COR Cloud for cloud-based data access, analysis, and collaboration. This announcement marks an important step in extending LI-COR Cloud to the entirety of LI-COR's eddy covariance portfolio and meets longstanding demand for a cloud-based data analysis platform for all users around the world.

Serving as the cutting-edge computing component of the flux station, SmartFlux Core collects data from tower sensors, processes high-frequency data, and securely transmits processed fluxes to LI-COR Cloud. Teams then can access, visualize, analyze, and share results with collaborators, stakeholders, networks, and others. LI-COR's Carbon and Water Node solutions, as well as HOBO® connected weather stations and wireless sensors, already transmit data to LI-COR Cloud. s to understand carbon dynamics over time and to evaluate the real-world impact of their actions.

With SmartFlux Core installed, traditional eddy covariance data can be sent to LI-COR Cloud for post-processing and analysis with advanced tools including QA/QC, data cleaning, gap filling, footprint mapping, and more. Near real-time data can also be accessed in conjunction with the latest cutting-edge tools, such as the LI-COR Cloud x FluxMapper™ integration, which enables high resolution flux mapping with pixel-scale attribution directly within LI-COR Cloud. The result is a more efficient path to analysis-ready outputs with fewer routine site visits or different cloud platforms—all while maintaining research-grade accuracy and efficiency.

SmartFlux Core also unifies the LI-COR eddy covariance and ecosystem flux portfolio. With its addition, every connected hardware solution is now accessible via one cloud platform. Whether data originates from a Water Node, Carbon Node, HOBO connected weather station, or traditional EC tower, it is now all transmitted directly into LI-COR Cloud. Users can then build cross-site dashboards and share more comprehensive data across teams and sites. The result is a single, cloud-based platform for both traditional systems and next-gen solutions alike—unlocking new potential for researchers and practitioners to better understand the environment.

SmartFlux Core is available now. Support for FluxSuite continues through June 2027, after which it will be retired. More information, specifications, and purchasing options for LI-COR Cloud are also available.
