Sonic Anemometers

Wind speed measurements are an integral component of the eddy covariance method. Research goals may require a specific geometry, a heating option, better operation in wet conditions, or may be constrained by budgets. LI-COR eddy covariance products are strategically designed to give you the flexibility to integrate with a variety of sonic anemometers to fit your exact research requirements, including the latest digital, heated, and multipath options.

The following sonic anemometers from Gill Instruments, Metek, and RM Young are available directly from LI-COR . Data and power cables are available in several lengths for tripod or tower configuration. LI-COR also provides mounting hardware for these anemometers.

Gill Instruments

Gill WindMaster™

This basic 3-axis ultrasonic anemometer offers measurement speeds of 20 samples per second. Aluminum and carbon-fiber construction, measures wind speeds from 0 to 45 m/s.

Gill WindMaster™ Pro

This precision 3-axis ultrasonic anemometer offers measurement speeds of up to 32 samples per second. Stainless steel construction, measures wind speeds from 0 to 65 m/s.

Additional options include wind tunnel calibration and/or a heavy-duty carrying case.

Metek

Metek uSonic-3 Cage Multi-Path

With configurable, efficient heating function, this multi-path ultrasonic anemometer performs three independent measurements of the 3D air flow quasi-simultaneously using only one sole sonic anemometer by arranging each sonic transmitter to three opposite sonic receivers. It is constructed of stainless steel with optimized design of sensor head and sonic transducers for minimal flow distortion. This model is optimized for omnidirectional measurements where there is no majority prevalent wind direction.

Metek uSonic-3 Class A Multi-Path

The “Class A” model contains the same features of the “Cage” model. This model is optimized for situations with a predominant wind direction a majority of the time.

RM Young

RM Young 81000RE

This 3-axis ultrasonic anemometer features an extended mast that separates the transducer array from the instrument body and wind-tunnel calibrated sensors, ideal for applications requiring high resolution and three-dimensional wind measurement.

Analog Sonic Anemometers Support

LI-COR eddy covariance systems also provide support for additional anemometers that are set to output analog signals. Analog anemometers require a gas analyzer that includes the LI-7550 Analyzer Interface Unit.
