LI-7810 CH4/CO2/H2O Trace Gas Analyzer

When methane matters most

The LI-COR LI-7810 CH4/CO2/H2O Trace Gas Analyzer provides exceptionally stable and precise methane measurements in a design that is both surprisingly portable and affordable. CH4 measurements drift less than 1 ppb per 24-hour period with 0.25 ppb precision (1σ, with 5-second averaging) at 2000 ppb CH4 in dry air at STP.

Achieve the long-term stability and precision needed for atmospheric monitoring, with the flexibility of design for deployments in mobile monitoring or soil flux research.

Exceptionally stable and precise measurements

When methane matters the most, the LI-7810 provides CH4 measurements with high precision and stability and good CO2 and water vapor measurements.

LI-7810 Long-Term Outdoor CH4 Stability

LI-7810 Long-Term Outdoor CH4 Stability
Figure 1. Thirty-day methane stability data from an LI-7810 CH4/CO2/H2O analyzer deployed in an enclosed shelter at an outdoor monitoring site in Lincoln, Nebraska. The instrument was operated continuously over the entire time period. The analyzer measured ambient air between stability checks. During stability checks, the analyzer was flushed for 10 minutes with tank gas (2 ppm CH4, 400 ppm CO2 mixed in air balance, 1% nominal concentration accuracy) and a time series data set was subsequently recorded for 10 minutes every 12 hours. The figure shows the mean value of the 10-minute measurements. Error bars represent a 1σ confidence interval (68%).

LI-7810 7-Day CH4 Precision with Allan Deviation Plot

LI-7810 7-Day CH4 Precision with Allan Deviation Plot
Figure 2. Seven-day CH4 stability data from an LI-7810 CH4/CO2/H2O analyzer (top). A single instrument was operated continuously over a 7-day period with a continuous flow of tank gas. The light blue line shows 1-second measurements; the dark blue line shows a 50-minute block average. Allan deviation plot (bottom) of CH4 measurements from an LI-7810 measuring mixture of 1970.7 ppb methane and 387.5 ppm CO2 shows precision at 1-second signal averaging, with improved precision as averaging time increases. Error bars represent 68% (±1σ) confidence intervals based on number of averaged time series available at each τ.

Applications

The LI-7810 Trace Gas Analyzer can be used for, but is not limited to, the following applications:

  • Atmospheric monitoring
  • Soil gas flux
  • Urban emissions monitoring
  • Mobile emissions monitoring
  • pCH4
  • Sensor networks
  • Large area emissions monitoring
  • Fugitive emissions

Choosing your analyzer

The LI-7810 Trace Gas Analyzer is ideal for applications that require long-term CH4 monitoring, or where precision and stability over time is critical. The LI-7810 is also able to provide a CO2 measurement. The CO2 measurements provided by the LI-7810 are appropriate for chamber-based CO2 flux measurements, such as with the Smart Chamber. Learn more about using the LI-7810 for soil gas flux here.

For applications that demand long-term CO2 monitoring and exceptionally precise and stable CO2 measurements, consider the LI-7815.

The LI-7810 is not designed for eddy covariance applications—which requires higher frequency measurements, but as a closed path analyzer it can be used for pCH4 measurements. If you need higher frequency measurements for the eddy covariance method, consider our eddy covariance solutions.
