Logging Configurations

This section includes basic procedures for logging LAI data using various configurations.

Manual Sequence with Sensor Unattached

A manual sequence is the simplest way to collect data with the LAI-2200C.

Follow these steps to manually log LAI data with the optical sensor unattached:

  1. Disconnect the wand from the console and power it on by pressing the A/B|Power button.
  2. Select Above or Below with the A/B|Power button.
  3. Position the sensor and press LOG to record a data value. Each record will be tagged with an A or B, depending on settings.

The records must be moved to the control unit for viewing and processing. Procedure 2.13 - Moving Wand Data to the Console.

Manual Sequence with Sensor Attached

Follow these steps to manually log LAI data with the optical sensor attached to the control unit:

  1. Go to MENU > Log Setup > Controlled Sequence > Use = No
  2. Create a new file (see Procedure 2.2 - Opening a New Data File).
  3. Select Above or Below with the A/B|Power button.
  4. Position the sensor and press LOG to record a data value. Each record will be tagged with an A or B, depending on settings.

Controlled Sequence

If a wand is attached to a console, then a controlled sequence is an option. Specify beforehand what sequence you want, (for example, ABBBB with 3 repetitions), and the console will automatically label logged records accordingly. The ABOVE LED on the wand (and the SEQ lines on the console) will indicate the next required reading type. Follow Procedure 2.4 - Setting up a Controlled Logging Sequence to set up a sequence.

Automatic Logging (Wand)

This configuration option allows you to set up an optical sensor to log data at specified intervals, whether or not the wand is attached to a console. Automatic logging can be configured to record data values at intervals from 5 seconds to 3600 seconds (60 minutes) in 5 second intervals. You can also specify the start and end time and date for automatic logging. Automatically logged data can be treated as A or B readings. Data points can be manually logged during auto-logging by pressing the Log button.

To configure a wand for automatic logging, see Procedure 2.7 - Automatic Logging - Wand.

Automatic logging (Console)

A console can also be made to log automatically (Procedure 2.8 - Automatic Logging - Console). Automatic logging can be enabled/disabled whether a file is open or not, but the only time it actually occurs is while a file is open. When a console autolog occurs, all attached sensors (wands and light sensors) are logged, and (if enabled) a G0 GPS record.

Transferring Wand Data

Data are stored in a wand under these conditions:

  • Data logged because of automatic logging (attached or unattached)
  • Log button pressed while wand unattached (Manual sequence with sensor unattached).

Wand data can be moved to the console and put in a new file or import to an existing file.Procedure 2.13 - Moving Wand Data to the Console.
